It is only three years ago that I started to do street photography: before that I photographed landscapes, buildings, objects, and sometimes made portraits of people I knew; and the exhibition that I had in Bangkok in December 2003 was of Thai temples, without people in any of the pictures. Indeed, like many other people, I felt uncomfortable photographing strangers in the street and saw no purpose in doing so. In 1993 when I participated in his workshop on colour photography in Tuscany, Sam Abell told me at the end of ten days, “You’re certainly not a street photographer.” He was right. I wasn’t.

Toronto based photo sharing site BubbleShare launched a demo today of a new service that may help differentiate themselves in the incredibly crowded photo sharing space. Called BubbleShare Live, the service allows multiple people to view and control a slide show and pointer on a shared web page. While other photo sharing applications operate asynchronously (I upload at one time, you view whenever you like) BubbleShare Live offers a way for multiple people to interact with photos at the same time.

The 8 person team behind BubbleShare was founded in late 2004, has been live for 10 months and is headed by CEO Albert Lai. No funding has been announced to date.

We have written about BubbleShare here before and the core features of the system are strong. You can start using the service fast – no account is needed to share photos, add audio captions and cartoon speech bubbles. Account holders can access a wide variety of other photo management and bookmarking features.

What’s most exciting to me though is the new service BubbleShare Live. Without installing any software users can effectively share browser windows to look at photos together. Anyone on the page can control the slide show and the pointer to highlight details in the images, or some users can be sent to a URL that only views page activity. It’s just in demo form right now, but you can go and try it out.

If you’re going to look at it by yourself, you can open a second browser window to the same URL your click-through to the demo lands on and see how well it works.

BubbleShare Live is built with a flash application at the server level, with only HTML facing users. It’s pretty smooth and a great idea. The company says they plan on adding chat and more user info in the near term future. If it scales well, it could be a powerful tool. I can imagine throwing screen shots into the system and using it to point out parts of multiple web pages with someone over the phone – for free!

There are obviously countless photo sharing services online. I think BubbleShare stood out with some interesting features even before the introduction of this Live component. Now it’s something I’m excited to use.

ZapZap is a new site built to aggregate channels of podcasts and video in a user-managed podcast episode directory. Although, calling it just a podcast directory does no justice because ZapZap also features digg like qualities where popular episodes are based on the amount of times a user saves an episode to their account. When registering with ZapZap, users are given the ability to “zap” postcasts and videos which will then add them to their “Zaplist”, or in other words, playlist. Everytime a user zaps an episode, ZapZap takes note of it and creates a popular listing of episodes similar to the way Digg works. The one big difference is that ZapZap is a directory and channel aggregator that automatically puts podcasts into the rotation rather then relying on users to submit them.

The main page of ZapZap displays all recently popular episodes, or in other words, episodes that have been added to user Zaplists the most in a specific timeframe. ZapZap also has seperate sections for audio episodes and video episodes where users can filter by category and language as well as an option to view only popular listings. Users can listen to any podcast and watch any video listed on ZapZap without leaving the webite making it easy for anyone to enjoy the episodes whether they have their own podcast player or not. If you listen to a podcast and like it, zap it to your Zaplist so you can listen to it later in the “My Page” section or by syncing it to iTunes or favorite podcast player.

ZapZap also has a neat feature called AutoZap which can help you keep up to date with your favorite podcast channels. It is basically like subscribing to your favorite channels except it also automatically zaps them to increase the episodes chance of getting on the main page. Simply browse to a channel by going to the Channels section or by selecting a the channel name in an individual episode. On the right of the channel page with be a button that says “AutoZap.” Clicking it will add the channels most recent episode to your Zaplist and will zap any new episode that comes in so you wont have to worry about checking back for them. Now I can either use iTunes or a different podcast player to automatically download latest episodes or just browse to the “My Page” section so I can view and listen to the latest episode.

Overall, I like what ZapZap has accomplished and hope it does well. It has turned your average podcast directory into an interactive Digg style site that also provides users a method to manage a playlist of episodes (Zaplist) and sync them to iTunes or other podcast players.

Lasty, If you are a podcaster and want to add your podcasts channel to ZapZap’s directory, you can do so by going to the bottom of any page and selecting, “Add a Channel.”

Для постинга в блог я использую браузер Flock. В нем появилась отличная функция: при чтении rss-каналов можно сразу отправить приглянувшуюся новость в блог. Причем встроенное средство для блоггинга автоматически создает все ссылки, отправляет трэкбэк.

И вот под одним из сообщений я вдруг получаю комментарий о том, что мой пост нарушает лицензию, выданную автором блога на свои сообщения. Отправляюсь по ссылке, и обнаруживаю там комментарий от нерадивого читателя, который говорит автору, что я ворую его записи, без соответствующих ссылок на него.

Обиде нет предела. Вначале я всердцах хотела удалить эту запись, но теперь по-просту сделала ее приватной. Принесла извинения автору поста (за что???), и сделала скриншот (см. предыдущую мою запись ), доказывающий, что необходимая ссылка на его сообщение существовала, как существуют ссылки и на все остальные, внесенные в мой блог записи.

Трэкбэк к его посту был отправлен уже вручную, чтобы быть уверенной, что он отправлен. И что? где он? Коль у человека не работают трэкбэки, моей вины здесь нет.

Что еще я об этом думаю: коль вы решаетесь публиковать свои записи через rss-канал, то, очевидно, не станете предъявлять претензии, если я установлю на своем сайте трансляции с вашего блога? Правда? И не станете кричать о нарушении авторских прав, понимая, что по ссылкам к вам придут читатели. Если кого-то не устраивает то, что записи транслируются полностью, он настраивает свои публикации в rss в сокращенном виде, если же вы допускаете возможность публикации через rss ваших записей полностью, то какие могут быть претензии тому, кто ими пользуется для трансляции у себя на сайте, либо в блоге?

Я чего-то не понимаю?

Очередной примерный перевод (просто вчера, мне было не до креатива) интересной статьи, опубликованной на Solution Watch, “Blue Dot – Bookmark with Your Social Network” (Blue Dot – Закладничайте вместе с вашей социальной сетью).

Blue Dot это новый сервис, который перешел в публичную бету на прошлой неделе. Его основная цель это использование социальных сетей, для обмена цифровой информации. Сначала я подумал что это просто очередные социальные закладки, но немного поигравшись с ним, обнаружил отличный потенциал. Как Genbeta заметил, это скорее аггрегатор, позволяющий отслеживать что ваши друзья закладывают. При помощи Blue Dot вы сможете следить за несколькими людьми одновременно, при этом просматривая, комментируя, и “доттируя” их открытые “доты”. Так же вы можете найти новых друзей и пригласить кого-нибудь в вашу сеть, просматривать сообщество “доттированного” контента и даже настраивать свой профайл.

Blue Dot предлагает прекрасный дополнительный инструмент, позволяющий облегчить процесс пометки сайтов. Достаточно просто перенести два букмарклета (для пользователей Firefox), что касается пользователей IE, им придется установить тулбар, для того, чтобы в последствии простым нажатием кнопки “Dot This!” поделится с друзьями из вашей сети понравившимся вам сайтом. После нажатия кнопки, в правой верхней части появится попап. В это окно можно ввести всякую дополнительную информацию о сайте, причем оно уже содержит экспортированное описание и картинки с сайта, отобранные Blue Dot. Все, что вам нужно сделать, это несколько тэгов и, в случае необходимости, выбрать картинку для вашей закладки. Даже прикреплять картинку к описанию очень легко, потому что подобно Kaboodle, Blue Dot собирает все картинки с сайта, который вы сохраняете, и достаточно просто выбрать понравившуюся. Если по каким то причинам вы не можете или не хотите воспользоваться кнопкой “Dot This!”, к примеру, если вы работает не за своим компьютером, можно легко сохранить сайт используя обычную форму из раздела сайта “Dot from Anywhere” , которая позволяет добавлять сайты в сеть вручную.

Одна интересная функция, привлекшая мое внимание и ниразу не встречавшаяся в подобных сервисах – это “Авто доттинг” (Auto Dotting). Смысл в том, что если ты блоггер, почему бы не “доттить” свои посты, автоматически. Blue Dot позволяет связать блог с вашим аккаунтом и немедленно добавит самые последние посты. Затем каждые полчаса он будет отслеживать ленту блога на наличие новых постов и автоматически добавлять их. Поддерживаются только “сторонние” блог-платформы, такие как WordPress, Blogger, LiveJournal, и MySpace. Я уверен, что если ваша сеть в Blue Dot станет достаточно большой, этот инструмент очень поспособствует увеличению просмотров вашего блога. Реальная тема.

Мне кажется, что Blue Dot сделан очень хорошо и имеет уникальную систему, которая безусловно выделяет его среди себе подобных. Конечно это социальные закладки, только как раз этой самой социальности там в разы больше чем в других социально-закладочных системах. Я чувствую это и будет его коньком. Вы можете просматривать букмарки членов вашей сети, находить и приглашать новых друзей и рассматривать доттинги других пользователей. Вы также можете добавить виджет Blue Dot на свой вебсайт, чтобы поделится с посетителями свежими “дотами”. Но также как и с любым другим новым сервисом социальных закладок, меня удивляет как он будет справляться с конкуренцией. Тем не менее Blue Dot – это отличный сервис и мне будет определенно интересно наблюдать за его развитием.

Глядя на непрекрающийся успех del.icio.us (подробнее о социальных сетях вы можете почитать в моей статье зачем нужен del.icio.us?), разработчики усиленно пашут над созданием его клонов. Зачастую клоны имеют больше новоротов. Интересных наворотов. Но они не делают эти проекты успешнее. Пример подобного клона – сервис асоциальных закладок fungow. В данный момент он находится в приватной альфе и разработчики поделились со мной инвайтиком. Не могу сказать что он блещет инновациями, но посмотреть – вполне можно. Update: сегодня была открыта свободная регистрация.

Хотя я и назвал fungow асоциальным, социальность там всетаки есть, капельку. В меню есть ссылка Friends – правда при клике появляется только форма для ввода мыла или юзернейма друга. Юзернеймов кроме своего я там не знал, а на введеное мыло ничего не упало. Инвайты, кстати тоже не работают – поделится, к сожалению не смогу… Остается только показать скриншоты:

Существует немало способов читать ленты RSS: здесь вам и всевозможные веб-сервисы разной степени социальности и подключаемые модули к Firefox и браузеры с встроенной поддержкой этой технологии. Но многие пользователи предпочитают для различных нужд использовать раздельные программы. Собственно, в программах для чтения новостей ничего нового нет.
